Delegation from Ireland to Visit Carolina International School
Seventh graders hope to establish pen pal exchange with Killarney youth
HARRISBURG, N.C. - Carolina International School (CIS) will host a delegation of five representatives from Killarney, Ireland, on Monday, April 4.
An assembly of the CIS student body will welcome the delegation at 9 a.m. with a sharing of the national anthems and bagpipe music performed by a CIS parent. The delegates will then visit each of the classes to describe their country and culture and to answer students’ questions. Killarney is the Sister City for the seventh grade class.
The visitors include the incoming mayor of Killarney, a councilwoman, town manager, and members of theTwinning Committee (Killarney’s Sister City committee). CIS seventh graders and the Killarney delegates hope to establish a pen pal exchange between the two countries.
Killarney, which is celebrating its 250th anniversary this year, is also the Sister City of Concord. The two cities formed their Sister City relationship in 1993. Since then, residents of both cities have visited back and forth in a variety of exchanges. The delegates will arrive in Concord on March 30 and stay until April 6. The Town Council of Killarney is sponsoring their trip.
