Professional Soccer Player to Visit Carolina International School
Ghana native to help students become pen pals with youth in his home country
HARRISBURG, N.C. - Charlotte Eagles professional soccer player Ishmael Mintah will visit students at Carolina International School (CIS) on Wednesday, November 10 to talk about his soccer career and answer questions about his native country of Ghana. Several other Eagles players will also visit.
Mintah, originally from Cape Coast, Ghana, and a former soccer All-American, will talk to the school’s third and fifth graders at 1 p.m. He previously entertained CIS second and fourth graders in early October. While he is at CIS, Mintah will pick up letters from the school’s fourth grade class to take back to a local school in Ghana and help establish a pen pal exchange between the two countries. Ghana is the fourth grade’s Sister Country.
“We are honored to have Ishmael return to CIS to share his soccer skills and knowledge with our students,” says Scott Morris, physical education teacher and athletic director at CIS. “His willingness to share CIS letters with students in Ghana is a perfect fit for our school’s international focus.”
Morris said he expects other Charlotte Eagles players to visit CIS in the future and conduct workshops as part of the school’s ongoing relationship with the professional soccer club.
