The Scholastic Book Fair is October 22nd-October 29th!

Carolina International School understands that parents are children’s first and most important teachers, and will always remain so. We respect and honor that special relationship, and seek to reinforce family bonds through close communication with parents.
Parents are encouraged to stay informed about our educational programs, our goals, objectives, school activities, and progress in attaining them. We welcome active membership to our Parent Teacher Student Organization (PTSO).

Uniform Orders
Allergies
There are a few students in attendance at CIS who are highly allergic to peanuts and peanut butter (removed from vending machine). When packing a lunch for your child(ren) please be mindful to reduce the risk to these children by limiting or eliminating altogether peanuts, or peanut butter in your child’s lunch, especially for the sake of another who may be highly allergic.
PEANUT ALLERGY
Visitor/Parent Parking
Please park in the allocated areas provided by the school. Parents and visitors should park in the lower, gravel parking lot and sign in at the main office. Do not enter classrooms at the back of the mobile units, this is a safety issue and it is not permitted. Also, do not park anywhere along the entrance embankments this is the designated area for our students for fire-drills and in the event of a fire.
Early Dismissal/ NOON DISMISSAL/HALF DAY
September 24th. - 12:00 noon early dismissal. On these designated Professional Development Days for faculty the BASP, Enrichment and CIS Club events will not take place. We are unable to provide, at this time, coverage for students. Please make the necessary arrangements ahead of time for your child pick-up and destination.
WANT TO HOST AN INTERNATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT?
Carolina International School has partnered with the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE). The mission of CIEE is “To help people gain understanding, acquire knowledge and develop skills for living in a globally interdependent and culturally diverse world.”
CIEE’s USA High School program is a 5 month or 10 month academic, homestay program that enables qualified international high school students to attend high school in the U.S. while living with a host family.
If you are interested in serving as a host family for the 2008 – 2009 school year, please contact Dee Duncan at 704-455-3847 extension 5502 today.
Classroom Visits
Visiting the class:
- You are an essential part of our school community and are welcome on our campus.
- Volunteer help for the teacher. Our teachers appreciate your offers to help. To make sure your time is used effectively, our teachers will identify tasks and will schedule times when they most need your help. We want you to feel that your time in the classroom was productive, whether as a tutor, clerical help, lunch or play supervisor, or other role. Please contact the teacher directly to schedule a time to volunteer.
- Observe the class. Some parents would also like to see the class in action. You can make an appointment directly with the teacher to visit the class for this purpose.
Parents as Partners in Education
Welcome parents to the classroom in our “Parents as Partners in Education” program. By identifying parents’ occupations, we can link them with units of study during the school year. Interested parents will be invited to visit the class and share how the students’ curriculum relates to their field of work. This reinforces the practical relevance of their schoolwork, models a career, and weaves the fabric of community within our school family.
Parent Service Teams
Fulfilling the potential of CIS through service and support
"Service Teams"
There are many ways our parents/guardians help fulfill the promise of Carolina International School. Many of these are through the work of “Service Teams”—“service” to reflect our purpose and CIS core value, and “team” to describe the way we work together to meet our goals.
Find Your Niche
We encourage each family to find an area of interest that excites you. We ask that each CIS family volunteers in some way. With your help, we will be astounded at what we can achieve as a school community.

Transportation
Carolina International School will rely on parent carpooling for two reasons: 1) our families are widely spread across two counties and 2) the expense of operating a fleet of buses is prohibitive when we have so many other start-up costs. By relying on parents to transport their children to school, Carolina International School can direct its resources to provide the best possible educational program for our students. If any family is unable to provide transportation by either of these means, we ask that they contact the school to see how we can meet their need.
Our parent committee for Transportation/Carpooling will help organize this important aspect of school life. If you are interested in carpooling, please refer to PTSO President, Donna Spohn scriplady@earthlink.net, for the password.
School Schedule/School Lunch
In addition to sack lunches brought from home, we hope to provide opportunities for students to purchase lunches from the school and/or the PTSO. Information will be sent home with more details. The cafeteria will have vending machines with healthy snacks and drinks.
