Facility Location
The Carolina International School is located on a 36-acre campus with forest and wetlands, at 8810 Hickory Ridge Road, Harrisburg. This is less than 5 minutes from the 485 and Rocky River Road intersection, and about 2 miles south of Harrisburg. This site provides an ideal setting for our environmental science emphasis.
Currently, CIS is housed in modular buildings. Our goal is to construct “high performance” buildings that conserve natural resources through day lighted classrooms, water catchment systems, and other features. Research on day lighted classrooms shows a 15% improvement in academic performance, along with the reduced cost of lighting and cooling. And in the typical school building, 80% of the water is used for flushing toilets. By gathering rainwater in cisterns, that water can be used for this purpose, reducing both runoff and expenses. We want our building to be as healthy as our students, and to serve as a laboratory of good stewardship of our natural resources.
Preparing a cost efficient, environmental sensitive environment for ____ community. It is important ___________ provide a physical home for our school is our highest priority.
This page will provide regular updates on our facility development.
