SPECIAL UPDATE
Ballet Warraba—For Every CIS Student
We want to clarify that EVERY CIS student will participate in the Ballet Warraba interactive dance workshop, next Monday or Tuesday. This West African dance experience will contribute to our students’ cultural awareness and demonstrate a new expression of movement to music. We are requesting a $1 contribution per student, if you are able. Please return the money in an envelope marked “Ballet Warraba” on Monday.
Countdown to Uganda
4th Grade Teacher Juliette Jones will be leaving for Uganda in 24 days with the UNITE program where she’ll visit our sister school in Rweteera. The school has at least 60 students per class, no running water, no electricity, and very few learning materials. We’d like to send a school-wide gift with Juliette, and she advised us that rather than carrying school supplies, the best gift is cash. One dollar can purchase much more in Uganda than here!
So, inspired by our Student Council and 4th Grade parents, we are launching an all-school “Change for Change” campaign to raise funds for our friends in Uganda. Children can bring in any amount of coinage or currency to contribute. If parents would like to donate with a check, it will be tax-deductible. It can be made payable to either “UNITE” or “CIS.” In either case, 100% of the funds will reach the school there. Thank you for considering the Rweteera children as part of our world family!
Going, Going, Gone! Lost & Found Mound
Once again we have accumulated a round mound of lost and found items in the office. CIS parents have one week to reclaim any items belonging to your children. On Monday, January 16th, the items will be donated to a local agency. If your child has lost a clothing item, lunch box, water bottle, etc., please look for it next week.
Parent Volunteer Help Requested
The new “Investigations” curriculum being offered in K-6 classes has teachers and students excited about learning mathematics. The program recommends many “manipulatives”—hands-on items like blocks, geometric figures, number squares, etc.—that students use to solve problems. These can be time-intensive to create, so we’re asking parents in grades K-1 and 3-5 if you could spare a couple of hours a week to prepare these for the class. They will be used for years to come. Please email your child’s teacher if you’d like to contribute to CIS in this way.
Mystery Questionnaire
On Friday a CIS parent distributed to their child’s teachers a questionnaire from University Pediatrics Mallard Creek, but the student was not identified on the forms. Please contact Mrs. Hayes in the Office with the child’s name so we can provide the requested information
