Packed attendance at Open House
Thanks to all the parents who came out to meet and greet our teachers at Open House! We had a great turn-out at every grade. That’s a wonderful show of support and interest in CIS, and we’ll continue to build on that strong foundation.
CIS Families Still Need Rides!
We learned at the Open House meetings that some CIS families still need rides for their children: e.g., in the Coventry development at Caldwell and Tom Query; on Robinson Church Road in Charlotte. If you can help either of these families or can offer a ride to others, PLEASE add your name to the list by contacting Caroline Cobb at: tgcisme@adelphia.net or 704-895-7901. You might find a rider who can contribute to your gas bill!
We are continuing to collect information and have about 25 families on the list, from southern Huntersville to Kannapolis to Harrisburg. It will be posted this weekend on our website.
Teachers at Globalization Conference
Our entire staff attended a workshop Thursday in Winston-Salem on “Globalization,” presented by the World View organization for its partner schools (CIS was the first charter school to become a partner). Professors from Wake Forest University and other speakers discussed topics ranging from “Growing in Cultural Competency” to “Using International Films” to “Bringing Global Education to the Classroom.”
School Uniform Update
We encourage students to wear their special occasion uniform (the white polo shirt with CIS logo) for the first day of school on Monday, but it will not be required. Any students who have physical education should wear their PE uniform.
We are working with a vendor to acquire an inventory of blue CIS T-shirt and gray shorts at the school for PE clothes. We’ll let you know as soon as we have order forms and delivery dates.
Also, we have updated our website with the new School Uniform Policy (under the “Parent Information” link). Please note that we have added Capris and cargo pants this year on a trial basis. They must be of a uniform design and not be worn too low, too tight, or too large.
Big Step! Permanent CO
After a year of toil and progress, we finally obtained our permanent Certificate of Occupancy this week for our overall campus. The final requirement was the road widening project. Special thanks to site manager Frank Bronander for his persistence and resolve. Please give Frank a pat on the back when you see him on campus.
Middle School Building Update
We are progressing with the permitting process and expect construction on the new middle school building to begin soon, perhaps next week. Because it is modular, construction will move quickly. Weather permitting, we hope occupy the building well before the end of this six-week term.
Family Night Out: Play-Off Soccer!
Last year our campus discovered a friend in Ishmael Mintah, a former All-American and current star of the Charlotte Eagles professional soccer team. The Eagles have a play-off game this Saturday night at 7:30pm at Waddell Stadium. If you purchase your tickets in advance online there is a $2 discount: www.charlotteeagles.com
Don’t Forget to Pack a Lunch!
Just a reminder that all students should have a sack lunch on Monday, and thereafter. We continue our search for hot lunch alternatives to the Canteen catering service, as they have discontinued service to this area.
We look forward to seeing all of you on Monday morning! Please drive safely, especially on our campus.
