Prepare for End-of-Grade Tests Now!
It’s that time of year. Next week we will conduct the End-of-Grade (EOG) testing with grades 3-7, beginning with the Student Survey on Tuesday morning and continuing with the Reading and Math tests Wednesday-Friday, from 9:30 to 12:30.
Throughout the year our teachers have been preparing students for success, with test-taking strategies, practice tests, and the total curriculum.
Now we want to emphasize the importance of a good daily routine. If our students are well rested and well nourished, they will perform to the best of their ability. Please ensure that your children get plenty of sleep (at least 9 hours recommended) and eat balanced, nutritional meals. Regular exercise is also beneficial to dissolve stress.

CIS: Modeling Best Practices
On May 17th, Sandy Garmon, our Guidance Counselor, attended a meeting in Raleigh for Directors of Student Services. Dr. Elise Leak, the Associate State Superintendent, presented updates from NCDPI and emphasized the following points:
- Schools must adapt a global perspective and increase student knowledge about the world
- Children learn from their peers so those relationships should be incorporated into schools
- Every student needs to feel that at least one adult knows who they are and sees worth in them
- Service learning is essential to provide chances for students to give of themselves to others
- Schools should develop and implement strategies to help all students succeed
- Schools should have parent education programs
Mrs. Garmon comments, “As we look over these recommendations for NC schools of the future, it is apparent that Carolina International School is doing all of them: through our five core curriculum features, peer mentorships, service learning projects, remediation strategies, and parent education program. How exciting it is to be a part of such an innovative school!”
