EOG Proctors Still Needed!

We need 10 more Test Proctors for our End-of-Grade Tests this year on June 1-3! Training will be May 23rd at 9:30am for about 30 minutes. Proctors simply observe the testing environment and ensure that the correct procedures and security are maintained. This is an important way to help

Letter of Intent Deadline Tomorrow

If you have not completed the Enrollment Intention Form for 2005-6 (sent in last Tuesday’s folder), please fill it out and return it to your child’s homeroom teacher by tomorrow.

Reminder: Reception with Paul Pigue

Carolina International School would not exist without Paul Pigue. Mr. Pigue learned of our vision for CIS and wanted to help make it a reality. He purchased these 36 acres, paid for most of the site preparations, and bought our new modular learning cottages. Mr. Pigue did this without intending to make any profit. We pay him a monthly leasing fee until we can arrange ownership of the site ourselves.

This Thursday Mr. and Mrs. Pigue and friends will visit CIS. That afternoon, from 4:00-5:30 you are invited to meet and greet Paul and Anne at the Rocky River Coffee Company, 4350 Main Street, in the Harrisburg town center. This informal reception is the opportunity for our parents to thank Paul for his generous support.

First Annual CIS Talent Sharing Show!

Auditions begin today for the CIS Talent Sharing Show on June 5th, 4:30pm, at Advent Lutheran Church in Charlotte. Many of our students have signed up to sign, dance, and share other talents. Ticket sales will be limited, so make plans to attend. Next week’s Tuesday folder will include ticket and pizza order forms. Show tickets are only $2; pizza prices are to be determined.

No Choir Practice This Week

Saving $ for College: Parent Education

Parent Education continues this Wednesday at 6:30pm with a seminar on “College Funds and Savings Plans.” The program will include an overview of ways to save for education purposes; tax benefits, credits,  and limitations with savings plans and special accounts. Information includes a sampling of current costs at public and private colleges in our region and handouts with comparison charts and a list of websites.

Parent Computer Classes to Form

Frustrated by computers? Need some help to work on the Internet? We’d like to offer evening computer classes for our parents in the CIS Media Center. If you’d like to join a beginner’s class, an Internet primer, or suggest another computer-related class, contact Lisa Albinus: 704-795-0326.

International Performing Arts Camp

Registration is still open for our exciting summer camp. Forms are available in the office!

5th Graders Service Learning Project

Five 5th graders in Ms. Roca’s class formed a company to market “Custom Bands” with different names, colors, and designs. Proceeds are being donated to the Bolivian student they sponsor through the PLAN USA organization. Pictured below: Riley Ghamsari, Justin Dotson, Colin Gibson, Myles Harris, and Darion Hardin.

Academic Extravaganza 5!

Our 5th Grade conducted carefully structured debates on several topics. Here two teams compete for an audience of parents to determine who presented the most convincing arguments.

The 5th Grade class made unique contributions to our Extravaganzas this year with play productions based on their original adaptations of novels they read. This is the conclusion of their version of “Surviving the Applewhites” starring Riley Ghamsari, who is transformed from a troubled youth to a positive, content young man by his acceptance by the eccentric, open-minded Applewhite family.
