Please complete the Enrollment Intention Form for 2005-6 in today’s Tuesday folder and return to your child’s homeroom teacher by May 18th.
Parent Reception with Paul Pigue
Carolina International School would not exist without Paul Pigue. Mr. Pigue learned of our vision for CIS and wanted to help make it a reality. He purchased these 36 acres, paid for most of the site preparations, and bought our new modular learning cottages. Mr. Pigue did this without intending to make any profit. We pay him a monthly leasing fee until we can arrange ownership of the site ourselves.
Mr. Pigue is an engineer and entrepreneur from Texas. On May 19th he and his wife Anne, a former schoolteacher, will be visiting campus for the first time since August. They will be joined by friends of theirs from Texas and NC. Our students and teachers will meet Paul and Anne for an all-school assembly at 10am and tour of classes. At noon, representatives from Perkins & Will will present the latest work on our master site plan.
That afternoon, from 4:00-5:30, you are invited to meet and greet Paul and Anne at the Rocky River Coffee Company, 4350 Main Street, in the Harrisburg town center. This informal reception is the opportunity for our parents to thank Paul for his generous support.
EOG Proctors Needed
We need your help as Test Proctors with the End-of-Grade Tests this year! Training will be May 23rd at 9:30am. You will observe the testing environment and ensure that the correct procedures and security are maintained. The testing is June 1-3 from 9:30-Noon, with make-up testing the next week. This is an important and much needed way to help CIS students!
3rd-4th Grade Playground Workday
This is a big Saturday for our 3rd and 4th graders. We can transform their play area if we get lots of help from students and parents alike. We’ll be spreading a huge load of mulch, placing landscaping timbers, and more. If you can lend a hand, please call Cathy Hayes in our office to sign up. Any amount of time will be appreciated.
Ms. Connie Byrne, “The Mulch Lady,” is also requesting helpers for campus beautification planting on Saturday: bobseldest@carolina.rr.com.
Saving $ for College: Parent Education
Parent Education will continue on Wednesday, May 18th, at 6:30pm with a seminar on “College Funds and Savings Plans.” The program will include an overview of ways to save for education purposes; the tax benefits and limitations associated with savings plans and special accounts; and tax credits for monies spent on tuition or other educational expenses. Information will include a sampling of current costs at several colleges, both public and private in our region and elsewhere and handouts with comparison charts and a list of useful websites.
Parent Computer Classes to Form
Frustrated by computers? Need some help to work on the Internet? We’d like to offer evening computer classes for our parents in the CIS Media Center. If you’d like to join a beginner’s class, an Internet primer, or suggest another computer-related class, contact Lisa Albinus: 704-795-0326.
International Performing Arts Camp
Registration is still open for our exciting summer camp. Forms are available in the office!
