Special UPDATE
NOTE: Casual Dress Day tomorrow, Friday, May 6th.
Academic Extravaganza Plans
Our students and teachers are gearing up for a great Academic Extravaganza this Saturday at Harrisburg Elementary School, 3900 Stallings Road. Students in grades 3-7 should be dropped off there between 8:30-9:00am. Parents are encouraged to stay for the morning to see all the presentations, especially the student-led portfolio conferences. In these conferences, the students will describe for their parents the various products they have completed and selected for their summary portfolio.
Our Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade students will start the day on the CIS campus. Please drop them off between 8:30-9:00am. There they will visit each others’ classes to see performances, presentation, and displays. At approximately 10:45am, we will begin bussing the students to Harrisburg Elementary School so we’ll all be together for the Closing Ceremony, beginning at 11:30am. We’ll have musical performances by grades 1, 3, and 4, and a play by grade 5 that is an original adaptation of a novel.
We will ask every student and parent to sign-in and sign-out at this event. Students must be present for the entire morning to earn a full day’s attendance.

Our students are making great use of our new computer lab to complete their portfolios for the Extravaganza. We have 22 new HP computers with Internet connectivity (including a security filter).
Car Line UPDATEs
To better utilize our campus space and ensure the safety of our students, we are asking:
- One lane only until 3pm. Parents who arrive early for afternoon pick-up should only use the far right lane, so the left lane is open for early pick-up or emergencies.
- No parking in carpool circle until 3pm. You will be expected to stop and park at the edge of the parking lot. There will be traffic cones and a sign to restrict traffic flow. This will keep our playground and parking lot open and safe. At 3pm the cars will be allowed to advance around the parking circle and to form the two lanes.
- Two-Lane Etiquette. Also a reminder about the lanes: the RIGHT lane of traffic (entering campus) is reserved for carpools, those picking up more than one student. The LEFT lane is for picking up single students. To optimize the flow of traffic through pick-up, we select 3 carpool cars for every 1 single car. Thank you for cooperating with us.
- Buckle Up! Lastly, pick-up time can be a bit stressful. We want to move cars through as quickly as possible, but we don’t want you to feel pressured to move before you have buckled up your children with their child restraint seat or seatbelt. Let’s all practice “Safety First!”
Late Pick-Up Policy
Each day at 4pm there are students whose parents have not yet arrived to pick them up. This causes a supervision problem for us. We cannot leave them in the courtyard area without assigning a staff member to supervise, and they have other responsibilities at that time. Because of this we are reminding everyone of our Late Pick-Up Policy: Students who remain after 4pm must be picked up at the After-School program room (Mr. Bunch’s room, Building 14) at a cost of $10, payable at that time to the After-School teachers. Please make every attempt to arrive before 4pm for pick-up.
Summer Camp Registration Open to Any Students
Our first annual International Performing Arts Summer Camp is now open to any student. CIS students can still take advantage of the early bird reduced registration fee. We’ve got a terrific group of teachers lined up for the camp, so we hope many of our CIS students will participate.
