Irish for a Day

Mayor-Elect Tom Doherty and four other dignitaries from Killarney, Ireland, are pictured with the CIS 7th Grade, their Sister City.

“You have such bright and respectful students!”
“This experience was the highlight of our visit so far!”

Led by Mayor-Elect Tom Doherty, a delegation of leaders from Killarney, Ireland (Sister City for our 7th graders), visited CIS on April 4th. They were excited by the school and pledged to help connect our students with peers in three Killarney schools: one all-girls, one all-boys, and one coed.

New “Safety First” Requirements

The safety of our students is a priority at CIS, especially when traveling off-campus. Upon reviewing our safety policies, we are instituting new requirements regarding for field trip drivers. Any school field trip driver must have:

  • current driver’s license (photocopied for school)
  • current car insurance
  • good driving record over the past 3 years

The car being used must have:

  • current registration sticker
  • current inspection sticker
  • functioning seatbelt for every passenger

Scholastic SUCCESS!

CIS parent Charlotte Halperin, chair of the Scholastic Book Fair Committee, reports that the final sales tally was over $5,700! She comments:

“The teamwork that was exhibited by each individual was extraordinary. Every person, no matter how involved they were, helped make this a success and I want to say thank you once again for your commitment, passion, and follow through. I heard this saying yesterday and I thought it was totally appropriate for what we just experienced with the Book Fair:

“TEAMWORK MAKES DREAMS COME TRUE!”

Earth Day Clean Up

Call for Volunteer Parents! Help us cleanup the campus for Earth Day, April 22nd. We need volunteers this Saturday, April 9th, for landscaping, playground and trail construction. Any time you can share from 9am-2pm will be appreciated.

Holistic Health for Families & Children

Our Parent Education program continues this month with a presentation on “Holistic Health” by CIS parent Dr. Jane Fitch. She will provide information about how to incorporate more holistic ideas into the life of your family and your children. Holistic means “whole.” This workshop will cover some basic principles of diet/nutrition and alternative health ideas to help you and your children stay healthy and happy. We will also discuss chronic illness patterns, behavior issues as they relate to diet and environment, building a stronger immune system, and more.

The meeting is Wednesday, April 20th, at 6:30 in the CIS Media Center. Join us for an informative, fun filled evening! Any questions, please email Lisa Albinus at DJPHA@aol.com OR call 704-796-3810.

Men’s Night Out!

CIS dads will have their chance to get together this Friday, April 8th, 7pm in Jillian’s at Concord Mills. We will meet inside the parking lot entrance. Please RSVP to Kenny Peace at 704-795-5934.
