“Roast ‘n’ Rite” a Big Success

For one afternoon, CIS was transformed into a Bohemian-style coffee shop to inspire creative writing with our 6th and 7th graders.

Student were preparing for the March 1st state writing exam when the Middle School team surprised them with coffee (decaffeinated!), tea, and treats. Classrooms became Café Lavarnway, Gayan’s Russian Tea Room, and Red’s Roast ‘n’ Rite.

Spencer Nichols, Maggie Trunk, and Jasmine Rinnix enjoy the writers’ ambience.   All the teachers dressed in black to help create the coffee house scene (Mrs. Lavarnway and Emily Moore at “Café Lavarnway”).

4th Grade at Exchange City

With the leadership of teacher Judee Sweet, the 4th graders prepared for months for their trip to Exchange City, the simulated work experience in downtown Charlotte sponsored by Junior Achievement.

Each student had a job for the day. Harrison Barnett, Kelly Leroy, and Kaitlynn McCorkle ran the Sign Shop that serviced all the other vendors.   Ms. Sweet helped promote job preparation and free enterprise at Exchange City.
