(Grades 7-10)
The North Carolina Envirothon is an annual competition in which high school and middle school teams compete for recognition and prizes by demonstrating their knowledge of environmental science and natural resource concepts. Each team will consist of five students and will prepare to demonstrate their management knowledge and problem-solving skills in a competition centered on five categories: soils/land use, wildlife, forestry, aquatics, and current environmental issues.
The Environthon program is an effective educational tool, capable of supplementing environmental education both inside and outside the classrooms. Teams will meet throughout the year. Team members work together to develop their knowledge of ecology and natural resource concepts and to practice their environmental problem –solving skills in preparation for Environthon competitions.
The primary coordination and leadership for the program is provided by the North Carolina Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts. There may be a lab fee for the event.
 (Grades 4-8)
Choir is an after-school performance group available to students in 4th-8th grades. Rehearsals will be in the afternoon from 3:30-4:15 pm in the music room. Goals for the year include at performances and outside performers to accompany rehearsals and performances. Parents are asked to check for any announcements or updates on events and performances on CIS’ music Department’s homepage located at www.scholastic.com (password=CIS music; username =hommesj).
 Club(Grades 7-10) JH-Math Counts
Math Club follows the Math Counts program. It recommends weekly training sessions in preparation for a Team Competition in the spring. Emphasis is on problem solving. Students are not expected to have a working knowledge of algebra, but should be at grade level to enjoy math challenges. There is a minimum number of students that must participate in a team. (six member team)
 School (HS)
High School students are able to assist in the Math Counts program. There are several Math competitions available to high school students (AMC is one). If enough students are interested in high school level competition, we are able to enter the names of the students in AMC competition.
 of the Mind(Grade 4)
Odyssey of the Mind is an international education program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from Kindergarten through college. Students apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics. They then bring their solutions to competition on the local, state, and World level. Thousands of teams throughout the U.S. and from about 25 other countries participate in the program. The requirement to enter competition is a team of seven students per coach.
 Club(Grades: 6-9)
Yearbook is a club dedicated to preserving the memories of every student on campus. In yearbook class/club, we will design, promote, and sell the current Carolina International School Yearbook. Students are required to attend school functions to capture the memories and help promote the yearbook. Assisted by teachers, students use an online computer program to create pages, and are also primarily responsible for taking the pictures that will end up in the yearbook. Our main goals are to capture the atmosphere of Carolina International School, and include every student's picture in the book.
 Activities(Grades: 6-9)
CIS offers an Enrichment Program designed to provide additional activities for after school hours offered by professionals from various organizations throughout the county. Our instructors have set minimum and maximum number of students to register for each class in order to maximize the ability to present an effective, enjoyable and informative activity.
We will need to have a minimum of students to offer these classes and will inform you on the class status once we have the enrollment forms.
