Athletics
CIS students receive instruction in Physical Education and Health classes according to the North Carolina Standard Course of Studies.
Participation in athletics is open to every student meeting the criteria of academics, character, and athletic skill necessary to compete. Students are only allowed to participate in one sport at a time during each season.
Each sport will have a $65.00 non-refundable registration fee. The fee is collected once the athlete has made the team and has accepted the commitment to play. There is a $75.00 deposit for any team uniform provided by CIS. Once the uniform has been returned at the end of the season, the non-deposited check will be returned.
Parents are responsible for transportation to and from the games and practices. The success of our teams will require parent volunteers. Our goal is to have a “Team Mom” and “Team Dad” for each sport. The responsibility of the ‘team moms’ and ‘team dads’ will be to help with snacks, coordinating carpools and help the coaches. Each athlete is provided a learning experience and the opportunity for basic individual skill development and opportunities to challenge individual and team abilities versus other schools. Participation is emphasized over winning. Interscholastic teams will be limited to a certain number of players.
When making cuts, the coach is responsible to evaluate each prospective athlete based on objective criteria. Coaches are expected to communicate with each student the specific reason why he/she did not make the team. This will enable the student to target areas for improvement. The coach has an on-going responsibility to evaluate and communicate to each athlete as to his/her role on the team. All players must play during the game!! The Athletics Department at Carolina International School strives to teach our athletes that they are students first and athletes second.
