Visual Arts

The Visual Arts program at Carolina International School supports the belief that there is a place for all students to share and to explore their creative potential.  Throughout the entire kindergarten through the tenth grade program, the art curriculum celebrates this inner creativity, encouraging greater discipline and skill development by ongoing exploration and observation of the visual world around us.

Music Appreciation

Grade level: 9 – 12child with instrument

Music appreciation is a project based course that exposes high school students to a broad spectrum of topics and activities in music. The goal of high school music appreciation is to facilitate an exploration of various musical genres as well as promote music as an integral part of society. Using the North Carolina standard course of study, students learn about various genres of music, instruments of other cultures, major composers and their works, music history, how technology is incorporated into music, and how to listen to and evaluate music.

General Music

Grade level: K-8

General Music provides an introduction to music theory and appreciation based on the North Carolina standard course of study. Students learn about the elements of music, how to read music, playing various percussion and melodic instruments, learning about music history and artists/composers, listening to and evaluating various genres of music. Through this curriculum, the goal of general music is to help students develop an appreciation of the depth of music in our lives.
